Branding·Identity

Logos and brands that work everywhere.

A logo has to work on a shop sign and a favicon, in one colour on an invoice and in full colour on a phone screen. From Leigh-on-Sea, we design brands that survive all of it - then hand you the files to prove it.

What you get

Files for every situation, not just a JPEG.

Most people come to us holding one low-resolution image of their logo and nothing else - which is why their sign-writer, their printer and their web developer have all rebuilt it slightly differently. A brand from us leaves as a complete kit. You will never need to ask us for "the logo file" twice.

  • Vector master artwork (AI / SVG / EPS) - scales to a building
  • PNG and JPG at web and print sizes
  • Full colour, single colour, black, and white/reversed versions
  • Favicon and social profile crops, already sized
  • Colour values in HEX, RGB, CMYK and Pantone, plus the typefaces used

Logo design for Southend and Essex businesses

Branding is everywhere once you start noticing it. Posters, the side of a van, a supermarket aisle of packaging all shouting at once. Walk a parade of shop fronts in Leigh-on-Sea or Southend and you are reading a hundred decisions somebody made about a name, a colour and a typeface.

All of it is doing the same job: being recognised in a second, and standing for something while it is. Your name and your logo are often what a customer weighs up before deciding who gets the work, and a logo that looks considered suggests a business that is.

A company logo is integral to a business that wants to be remembered. It has to work well on a shop sign and equally so as a social media icon. It should be recognisable in one colour on an invoice and in full colour on a phone screen. We draw logos that survive all of it - then hand over every format you'll ever be asked for.

Branding guidelines document

In addition to creating your company logo, we suggest putting the rules of your new brand in writing. A plain-language brand document covering your colours, typefaces, spacing and usage - so your sign-writer, your printer and anyone who touches the brand after us gets it right first time.

It is the difference between owning a logo and owning a brand. Click the document to take a closer look at a recent client.

Promotional design

Posters, menus, lightboxes, event graphics and promotional pieces ... we have been creating these for businesses, one of which for 15 years!

The fight nights and match days that keep Choppers Sports Bar full started as artwork on our desk and now shape the whole feeling of a vibrant sports bar in the heart of the island of Koh Tao, Thailand.

We design t-shirts and merch too, to print well rather than just look good on screen.

Whether it's a one-off or a running series on a monthly retainer - promo clients send the details, a deadline and get artwork back within 48 hours.

Branding and websites, done by the same hands.

Plenty of businesses end up with a logo designed by one person and a website built by another, which is why the two so often disagree with each other. We do both - so the colours, the type and the tone match from the sign on the door through to the contact form. If you're planning a website too, saying so early usually saves money.

How a branding project works

No-one wants to waste time or money. As such, the initial meeting is crucial to ensure we don't make fifty concepts - just a considered few. This allows a fixed price rather than surprise additional cost.

A conversation

We ask what the business does, who it's for, what it must not look like, and where the logo has to live - van, window, screen, packaging. More importantly, how should it make you feel wearing it, and the client feel seeing it. Branding should evoke emotion and have meaning.

Routes

Brand design starts with three genuinely different directions, presented in situ rather than floating on white, so you can judge them as they'll be seen. You pick a direction to drill down on and we land on a concept that best represents your business.

Polish and presentation

We take the strongest route and work it properly - spacing, weight, how it holds up small and in one colour. We then show you how it will look in the places it will be seen - van graphics, shop front and workwear, for example.

Handover and proposals

You'll be given every file format you'll ever be asked for. If you've asked for a branding guidelines document, it will show how the logo should be used and how NOT to use it, to ensure branding harmony, always. We may then look at getting your new branding on stationery, websites, vehicles and more!

We got Andy at Bang! Graphics to create our wedding invites and they are amazing. We weren't very good at giving him ideas - he asked us a set of questions to get an idea of what we wanted, but we weren't completely sure ourselves, so we were quite vague.

Andy didn't have a lot to go on apart from a colour and a couple of images from Google that I liked, yet he managed to create a base for us to go from, which was lovely. Our theme was emerald green and the invites were perfect - not over the top. Andy also helped us out a lot with the wording too. We didn't actually change that much from his first draft as he pretty much nailed it first time!

Andy was incredibly patient and great to work with. We would definitely recommend him to anyone needing help designing something.

I can't recommend Andy and Bang! Graphics highly enough. He has helped me with several aspects of my business since start up, including designing my logo and letterhead, as well as creating and managing my website and web hosting.

What I particularly appreciate is how easy he is to deal with. Andy takes the time to understand what I'm looking for, is always happy to make changes or offer advice, and nothing ever feels like too much trouble. The finished work has always been professional and exactly what I was hoping for.

It's also great having someone I can rely on for everything from my branding and logo design through to my website and hosting, rather than having to deal with different people for each job.

If you're looking for someone friendly, reliable and genuinely good at what they do, I'd definitely recommend Andy.

Andy has been looking after my website for many years, following a recommendation from a colleague of mine, it's the best thing I've done! His devotion to website management is second to none; attention to detail being one of his many qualities.

Whenever he runs his regular security updates, he always tests my website then contacts me to let me know what he's done. When he gently suggested that my old aging website could do with a freshen up, he walked me through the entire process with the patience of a saint. He redesigned it within my budget and has made my new website look amazing. Andy very quickly recognised that I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to anything computer related and has very kindly been to my house to streamline my emails on my laptop and phone. Whenever I've yelled for help, he's responded within the hour - often fixing the problem at the same time. Looking back through my emails to him, it seems all of my "sent" emails have the words "thank you so much". Do what I did - get Andy to sort your website out, you won't regret it.

Andy has been working on several aspects of our chutney business matters and his work has been exemplary! Andy's web design with a logo to our specification and appropriate choice of colors and images is awesome and has been commented on by several family members and friends.

We also have a personalized email which was set up by Andy. Although Andy doesn't usually do designs for labels, he did ours and in fact the company that printed the labels were very impressed with the design! Andy went a step further and designed our business cards and compliment slips to make a lasting impression. We will recommend Andy/Bang Graphics with absolutely no hesitation!

Andy re-designed our Society's website. On time and on budget. From the beginning he was meticulous in making sure he had understood the brief.

He offered very sensible advice and was able to talk in "layman's language". He is very patient! We had to overcome some issues with the integration of two sites which meant some extra hurdles and Andy took the time to make sure he had found the correct solution. He is a perfectionist but if something is going to overrun the budget he is scrupulous about referring back before he incurs extra expense. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him.

Branding questions

When can you start?

Sooner than a website, usually. There is no content to gather, so what we need from you at the start is smaller: what the business does, who it is for, what it must not look like, and examples of branding you like and cannot stand. Once we have that, we would look at the work diary and tell you when the three directions can be with you. The research and the drawing are ours to do, so the date depends mostly on what else is in the studio rather than on anything you have to prepare. Some parts of the year are busier than others, so it is worth asking at the time.

How much does branding cost?

A logo on its own is £800. A logo together with a written brand guidelines document is £1,500, and the guidelines can be added later for £700 if you would rather start with the logo but you will then be paying a little more. Printed pieces - labels, cards, menus, workwear - are charged at our hourly rate once we know what they are, because a business card and a run of product labels are not the same job. Posters and menus on an ongoing retainer are typically £120 to £600 a month, depending on how much comes through. Every one of those is a fixed price, agreed before anything starts.

What can you design?

Logos and full identities, plus the printed pieces that carry them - product labels, business cards, compliment slips, t-shirts, even album covers. If it carries your name, it can come from the same desk as your website.

Do branding and web work together?

Yes - when the same studio draws the brand and builds the site, everything matches from the first day, with no round of file-swapping between suppliers.

How many logo ideas do I see?

Three different directions to start with, based on your brief and taking into account the evidence you gave as likes and dislikes. We do not offer fifty variations on the same idea, and not one take-it-or-leave-it. You pick a direction, and we work that one properly. There are optional revision rounds after that, and at that point we should be there with the finished product.

What files do I get at the end?

Vector master artwork in AI, SVG and EPS that scales to the side of a building. PNG and JPG at web and print sizes. Full colour, single colour, black and reversed versions. Favicon and social crops, already sized. Your colour values in HEX, RGB, CMYK and Pantone, with the typefaces listed. You should never have to ask us for "the logo file" twice.

What is a branding guidelines document, and do I need one?

It is the rules of your brand written down in plain language - colours, typefaces, spacing, and how the logo should and should not be used. It is optional, but hugely useful to designers and printers that you may use in the future. It earns its keep when there are several people touching the brand: a sign-writer, a printer, whoever builds the next thing. There is one on the branding page you can leaf through page by page.

Can you deal with my printer?

Happily. Everything leaves print-ready with the bleed and colour values your printer will ask for, and if it is easier we will talk to them directly for a small charge so nothing gets lost between the two of you.

Can you do posters and menus on an ongoing basis?

Yes - as a one-off or on a monthly retainer. Send the details and a deadline, and artwork comes back within 48 hours. We have been doing exactly that for one client for fifteen years, in a sports bar on the other side of the world.

I already have a logo. Can you just do the website?

Most definitely. If the logo works we will use it and build the site around it. If the only version you have is a low-resolution image someone emailed you years ago, we can redraw it properly as vector artwork so it can be used in various places without losing its quality, although this would be an additional chargeable service.

How long does branding take?

The timescale for branding is genuinely open ended. The creative process on our side can take a few days but the research and initial evidence on your side can take as long as it takes. As such this is a different question to answer. If we assume that you have completed what we have asked for, up to one working week is usually enough to come back to you with some definitive options at the start of the branding journey. Then revisions can be swifter once a direction has been chosen. For the branding guideline, there is a fair amount of back and forth with that but I would conservatively suggest 1-2 weeks to get it to the point you can use it.

Do I own the logo?

Yes. As soon as the final invoice is paid and the contracted work is complete, the files and the brand are yours. Everything is drawn from scratch rather than taken from anywhere, so there is nothing in it that belongs to somebody else. What we cannot do is clear a name or a trademark. Whether a logo or a business name conflicts with something already registered is a legal question and the work of a solicitor, not a designer.

Got a brand to build, or one to fix?

Thirty minutes on Google Meet. Bring what you have and you'll get a fixed price before anything starts.
